For many days, I have been absorbed completely with memories of the hauntingly beautiful city of Savannah, where I spent several seasons between the years of 2006 and 2008, when attending my art history courses at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Savannah, located in the state of Georgia on the southeast coast of the Atlantic Ocean, is a city rich in history, architecture, and botanical gardens. This charming city is also full of ghost stories, myths, and legends. Savannah was founded in 1733 by James Oglethorpe who was a member of the British parliament involved in the project of founding the colony of Georgia.
The historic district of Savannah is one of the best maintained historic districts in the entire USA. Historic Savannah is filled with cobblestoned squares, carefully arranged streets, horse-drawn carriages, and architecture built before the American Civil War (1861 – 1865). The streets of historic Savannah are adorned with fragrant magnolias, evergreen palmettos, dazzling crepe myrtles, and most especially, magnificent live oak trees known for their Spanish moss, all floating in my dreams. River Street, along Savannah’s historic waterfront, is the best place for taking promenades, watching the sunset, and enjoying the best Southern food at glittering cafes and restaurants.
Savannah is also a famous filming destination, as numerous movies and TV shows have been filmed there. Discover the beauty and mystery of Savannah and immerse oneself in the city’s historic and modern attractions. The film that made Savannah famous is “Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil,” directed by Clint Eastwood in 1997. The film was inspired by the best-selling novel by John Berendt. Savannah always has a special place in my Heart.
