Lately, I have written poetry in the style of medieval epic poets, such as laments of troubadours and trouvères, which I find remarkably intriguing. Among the medieval troubadours were many distinguished noblemen and women, like William IX of Aquitaine (1071– 1127), Eleanor of Aquitaine’s grandfather, who was an influential patron of the troubadours and this patronage transcended the generations to William X, Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122–1204), and her son, Richard the Lionheart (1157—1199). Every time I turn to the great examples of the past, while still pursuing my own artistic vision, whether it is writing a poem or composing a melody, I feel closer to the heavens and less distracted by the travails of this world. I really am grateful for an incredible opportunity to follow my own path and to create something authentic (and I dare hope, enduring) in the arts. I am having a dream of a time. 🎶🌹🎶 —Diana Guber, “A Dream of Ages Past,” 2022.
